Mold Testing & Remediation

Mold spores are ever present in our outside and indoor air. Molds are usually not a problem indoors, unless spores land on a wet or damp spot and begin growing.

Molds do have the potential to cause health problems. Molds produce allergens (substances that can cause allergic reactions) and irritants. Inhaling or touching mold or mold spores may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Allergic responses include hay fever-type symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rash.

We will safely test then remove the mold in your home AND correct the source of the problem - permanently.

Remediation

If mold is found to be present in your home, who should do the cleanup depends on a number of factors.

One consideration is the size of the problem. If the moldy area is less than about 10 square feet you can likely handle the job yourself. However, if there has been a lot of water damage, and/or mold growth covers more than 10 square feet it's best to consult a professional.

Few states regulate mold remediation and there are no federal regulations governing the sector. Many contractors are therefore certified by third party organizations such as the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC).

Repair

It's important to ensure the root cause of a mold problem is addressed after the clean up work. Depending on the cause, repairing or installing proper ventilation can prevent excess condensation and heat buildup, prohibiting new mold growth.

Most buildings require some level of air to pass through certain spaces to expel moisture that could cause materials to deteriorate. In the living spaces, your HVAC system serves this function. Proper ventilation can will make your home more comfortable throughout the year as well.

Water damage events often require removal and rebuilding of wall or floor structures. HVAC system clean outs and re-balances are recommended after any mold work. Treatments with fungicides may also be required.
